Semester Program in Peacebuilding Across the Disciplines

Earn a Certificate in the Analysis, Ethics and Application of Peacebuilding through a semester of intensive study and application.  You’ll earn up to 16 college credits for successful completion of the core courses and an internship while living in community at the Peace House for either the fall or spring academic semester. The program provides a succinct and powerful approach to peacebuilding and its application.

Peacebuilding Courses - 10 credits
  • Peacebuilding Across the Disciplines (3 credits)
  • Conflict Transformation and Leadership Skills (3 credits)
  • The Ethics of Peacebuilding (3 credits)
  • Urban Issues in Indianapolis (1 credit)

All courses are taught at a 300 level.  Those who have to take a leave of absence from their home institution in order to participate in the semester program will be awarded credits from Earlham College.

Internship - 6 credits

  • 20 hours/week for 15 weeks total 300 hours.

As an intern, you’ll have the chance to apply what you learn and create your own approach to peacebuilding through a hands-on project with a community-based organization, government agency or business.  You’ll interact with a wide range of practitioners and get their perspective on implementing change.  A weekly internship seminar accompanies the internship and provides professional development experiences, guided reflection on individual and organizational roles in social change, and an introduction to the practitioner/scholar model.
