Business Internships

Public relations, administration, information technology and management skills are used for the greater good in these internships. Working with a for-profit or non-profit business exposes interns to the inner operations of agencies, impacts their commitment to social responsibility and ignites business careers that build peace.

Of the Institute's 150+ partners, these are just a few examples of the effective and ethcial peacebuilding initiatives being carried out in the business world.

Highlighted Internships

At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis, Sam (Communications, Manchester College) had the chance to photograph a major fundraising event, participate in filming a Public Service Announcement and supervise a group of 30 volunteers completing a clean-up project. And that was only the first week! His internship in the Public Relations department taught him about publicity on a budget, soliciting in-kind donations, keys to interoffice communication, interview skills and more. According to Sam, “I learned things I know I can bring to the for-profit business world; like how to work as a team to come up with creative ideas.”

Business Ownership Initiative of Indiana (BOI) – Lending support to small businesses might not strike some as building peace.  But BOI knows it can make a difference not only for individual business owners but also for economically depressed urban communities struggling with need and a desire for opportunity.  Over 70% of BOI’s clients are women of color with dreams to increase their income through home-grown businesses.  Interns at BOI work directly with clients to coach them through their business plans and to introduce them to conflict transformation skills that will improve their businesses.
