Arts, Culture + Sport Internships

Internships in the Arts, Culture and Sports category are a venue for creating dialogue, self-expression and deeper understanding between individuals and communities, for developing and practicing peacebuilding skills, and for having fun with peacebuilding. Interns engage others in exciting ways alongside partner organizations.

The Institute partners with over 150 community organizations, businesses, and government agencies to place interns.

Highlighted Internships

Indianapolis Museum of Art (IMA) – Through a unique partnership with the IMA, the Indianapolis Peace Institute offers interns a chance to bring peacebuilding and the arts together.  Intern Rachel (Human Relations and Social Development major, Earlham College) got the chance to put her energy behind the IMA’s long-standing desire to make every exhibit and program accessible across a wide spectrum of special needs.  The new policies and procedures she helped design ensure that all people benefit from the arts as an effective venue for generating inter-group understanding and healthy self-expression. And interning at the IMA meant a generous dose of fun was built in to the experience to round out her serious accessibility endeavors.

Big Car Gallery – Ben (Arts Administration, Butler University) broadened Big Car’s role in reaching young people through the music.  In addition to providing gallery space and a performance venue, Big Car offers public relations support and arts programming to the Indianapolis community through the cultivation of an atmosphere that encourages artists to be creative and connected.  Ben said this of his work designing multi-genre workshops for young people:, “I’m constantly looking for ways to incorporate music in conjunction with my passion for social justice. My internship has shown me how I can build on the things I have to ensure the greatest impact for the community.”
