Internships

“Overall, it was a really valuable experience, particularly for the things I learned and people I met through my internship.” Jason, Peace & Global Studies | Earlham College
Internships are a vital part of the Institute's programming for students, providing interns with an opportunity to apply what they've learned in the classroom, creating, testing and improving upon their own approach to peacebuilding. The Institute's 150+ partnering organizations are at your fingertips whenever you're ready to share with us your interests, vision, and goals.
“I felt that staff really tried their best to make sure I was taken care of at my internship.” – 2009 Summer Urban Experience student
The Institute’s staff works closely with each student to offer several good matches based on the interests of the student.  Students follow up with phone interviews to finalize the placement. Once placed, each student works with an on-site mentor to identify a peacebuilding project that will occupy approximately 75% of the internship hours.  During the semester, interns are on-site at the internship 20 hours per week, and in the summer, they work 32 hours per week.

“My internship was a perfect fit. I gained new understanding and helped create significant social change.” Jessica, Sociology | Hanover College
Internship Placement Program
Most internships are completed for credit through one of the Institute's academic programs including the summer, undergraduate and graduate semester programs.  For 2009, the Institute has introduced a pilot Internship Placement program for Indianapolis students and residents who are seeking assistance in obtaining a high quality internship with a peacebuilding organization and are unable to participate in the corresponding academic program.  Please see the PDF below for details.

Congratulations!
